The free distribution of the seedlings is in line with the government’s flagship programs of planting for food and Jobs (PFJ) and Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD) aimed at diversifying farmer’s income through cultivation of cash crops.
Mr. Christian Adu Poku, the District Chief Executive (DCE) who handed over the seedlings to the beneficiary mentioned that, the Assembly recognizes the significance of the PERD program therefore it has dedicated sources to it to ensure farmers in the area profit from the system.
He used the chance to encourage residents particularly the youth who are serious about venturing into coconut farming to liaise with the Agric Department.
The Agric officer also inspired the beneficiaries to take excellent care of the seedlings so that the nice intentions behind the system are realized.
