Mr. Samuel Akwasi Addo, Sunyani Municipal Disease Control Officer, who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency in an interview on Thursday, in Sunyani, said the situation has been brought under control as the cases were identified earlier.
The health facilities are the Sunyani Regional, Sunyani Municipal and the Seventh-Day Adventist Hospitals, he said.
Mr. Addo said the patients reported at the Hospitals after returning from journeys outside Sunyani, adding that, all of them, including those who were on admission, have been treated and discharged.
He said as a control measure, residences of all the patients, as well as all waste dumping sites and public toilets have been fumigated to control the spread of the disease in the Municipality, through the collaborative effort of the Municipal Assembly and the Zoomlion Waste Management Company.
Mr. Addo said since the cases were sporadic, coupled with all the patients from different destinations, the major source of the disease had been difficult to trace.
He said public education is also being carried out with an information van whilst food vendors have been educated to ensure best practices of hygiene.
Mr. Addo entreated the general public to be selective in their patronage of food prepared outside their homes, emphasising that either at home or outside, meals must be taken warm, if not hot.
He advised the general public to practice good personal hygiene by ensuring regular hand washing with soap and water.
