As part of his tour, he inspected some ongoing projects at the Mawuli Senior High School and later addressed a gathering of staff and students from the Mawuli, Ola Girls, Mawuko Girls, Tanyigbe, Shia and Sokode Senior High Technical Schools at the Assembly Hall of Mawuli Senior High School on Tuesday 5th November 2019.

In his welcome address, the Headmaster of the Mawuli Senior High School, Rev. Samuel Senanu Asieni, advised the President to remain focused in his quest to move Ghana forward, as the future of the country is bright.

He lauded the President for the introduction of the Free SHS, as well as the ongoing projects in the school namely; Boys and Girls dormitory blocks, a 6-Unit classroom block and also an 18-unit classroom block.

That notwithstanding, he also mentioned a few challenges facing the school which include, inadequate staff bungalows and the upgrading of the school's clinic to accept NHIS cards.

Addressing the gathering, the President expressed his strong belief in the investment of the country's resources on Free Senior High School.

He cited that America is now the greatest nation in the world because it has invested greatly in its human resources. He emphasized that it is only the development of the human capital of Ghana that can make the nation great but not its natural resources.

Furthermore, he stated that until the introduction of the Free SHS policy, about 100, 000 pupils each year could not have access to Secondary education due to the inability of their parents to pay their admission fees.

The President revealed that about 1.2 million students are now in second-cycle institutions across the nation, 400, 000 more than what the case was before the introduction to the policy.

Nana Akuffo Addo also made it known that he had no regrets in spending the oil revenue on the Free SHS policy, for it is being used in preparing our country for the future since the 21st Century is about knowledge and technology. He again stated that he is committed to ensuring that the country is not left behind in the 21st Century.

He, therefore, entreated the students to continue to read broadly to broaden their knowledge. The President also mentioned that those who were trying to undermine the Free SHS policy would not succeed, and urged the students to endeavor to shame the detractors by excelling in their final exams come next year. “Free SHS has come to stay” he stated.

The President further assured the Headmaster of the Mawuli School that, their concerns would be addressed in due course.
