Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly Inaugurated

The Metro Chief Executive of the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly, Anthony Kobina Kurentsir Sam says the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly has great potentials which should be properly harnessed to improve upon the internally Generated Revenue fortunes of the Assembly.

According to him, the existence of key economic avenues such as Markets, Hotels, Restaurants, Oil marketing companies, Transport service providers, Construction firms, Banks, Residential properties and other revenues presents the Assembly with positive revenue outlook which must be tapped to augment other sources of funding that may beat her disposal. The Metro Chief Executive was at the inauguration ceremony of the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly.

He mentioned the construction of stores and Ancillary facilities at Apremdo at a cost of 1,205,684.21, Re-roofing of 8 No. Market sheds repair works at Apremdo market at the cost of 358,051.08, Construction of Terminal loading and Grounds at Apremdo at the cost of 1,321,680.45 and Completion of Fabrication Laboratory at Takoradi Technical Institute at the cost of 886,000.00 as some of the life enhancement projects the STMA undertook in the Effia-Kwesimintsim Sub Metro to facilitate socio-economic development within the area.

He revealed that the Assembly has putting in place measures for the relocation of truck operators from Apremdo (Abenbebom Area). This he said will pave way for the commencement of multi-purpose economic activities at the Apremdo Abenbebom Area. He charged the management of the New Assembly to adopt pragmatic management strategies towards Sustainable Utilization of the above mentioned projects for the betterment of current and future generators.

On sanitation situation and waste Management at the Effia- Kwesiminstim Sub Metro the MCE disclosed that the Assembly has entered into a franchised contract for the evacuation of solid waste at Effia and Kwesiminstim with some few challenges identified upon commencement and would urge the New Management to liaise with the waste management Department of STMA to address the situation.

The Chief Executive further indicated that in order to address the perennial flooding in some parts of the Metropolis including the Effia-Kwesiminstim sub metro, there is the need for desilting of the storm drains at Le champion, Kwesiminstim Fie, Asare Oppong school, St Peters preparatory school, Effiakuma No 9, Ntankorful, Kansaworodo and shell.  Mountain Zion, Kwesimintsim Hospitals through Airport ridge among others.

For his part, the Minister for Railways and Development and Member of Parliament for the Essikado Constituency Joe Ghartey used the opportunity to appeal to the New Management to work hard in order to generate more revenue mobilization to fast truck the smooth development of the country. He urged the Assembly to support Government flagship programmes in order to ensure it realization.
