Let’s treat malaria like Covid-19 pandemic – Ellembelle DCE
The District Chief Executive of Ellembelle in the Western Region, Kwasi Bonzo, has called on the government and Ghanaians in general to treat malaria as a pandemic and give it the needed attention as the Covid-19 pandemic.

He was speaking at this year’s World Malaria Day held by the Ghana Coalition of Non-Governmental Organisations (GCNGO) at Ellembelle on Monday, April 25.
“Malaria cases in the county have caused more death than Covid-19 pandemic, therefore there is the need for Ghanaians to treat malaria as a pandemic and give it the needed attention as accorded to Covid-19,” he added.
The DCE lamented that the district assembly in collaboration with the district health directorate and other stakeholders in the district will work assiduously to stem down the malaria disease in the district.
Kwasi Bonzo again stressed that research has shown that currently the rampant malaria in the Ellembelle district is as a result of the increasing of galamsey activities in the district.
Now, it is unfortunate that the malaria has overtaken all diseases in the district and leading on disease data in the region, he noted.
Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of Ghana Coalition of Non-Governmental Organisations in Malaria, Gabriel Fiatui, also advised those living in the district and Ghanaians as a whole to seek early treatment to avoid loss of man hours.
The PRO told pregnant women to immunize against malaria to save the the foetus and avoid miscarriage.
The theme for this year’s World Malaria Day celebration was: ‘Advance Equity Build Resilience, End Malaria’.
