The seedlings include; 80,000 mango seedlings, 76,000 palm seedlings and 2,000 coconut seedlings.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the area, Simon Kweku Tette, who revealed this in an interview with Ghanadistricts.com said, the Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD) Programme is a decentralized National Tree Crop Programme to promote rural economic growth and improve household incomes.

He added that rural farmers, as part of the initiatives, are also assisted with extension services, business support and regulatory mechanisms to help promote their farming activities.

He said the initiative is to ensure an immediate and adequate availability of selected food commodities on the Ghanaian market, adding that the initiative has also provided jobs for the teeming unemployed youth in the area.
The MCE seized the opportunity to urge farmers to take advantage of the programme in order to wipe out poverty in the municipality.
