She polled 17 of the 33 votes cast by the assembly members with 15 of them voting against her nomination while one of the votes was counted as rejected. The development, left some supporters and sympatisers of New Patriotic Party (NPP) disappointed and vowed never to accept any candidate apart from the failed nominee.

They did not understand why the assembly members, majority of whom were perceived to be NPP members, voted against the President’s nominee.

Mrs Hagan has been an elected assembly member, Government appointee and Presiding member of the AAK district assembly.

The assembly is expected to sit in ten days for the second confirmation process.
