Ghana Urban Forum engages stakeholders
This year’s Ghana Urban Forum (GUF) has engaged stakeholders to provide an avenue for sharing knowledge and experiences to help address issues concerning planning, management and living in the country’s cities and towns at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra.

The programme, which was on the theme: “Rapid Urban Growth in Ghana: Promoting Effective Urban Planning for Liveable and Sustainable Cities and Towns,” brought together state and non- state actors to discuss pertinent urban issues and proffer solutions that will support sustainable urban development in the country.
This has become increasingly important due to the emergence of more complex issues such as demographic and climate changes as well as the onset and recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The GUF has since its inception in 2009, been used by the Ministry of Local Government to additionally, solicit stakeholder inputs into policy and programme documents, which includes; the National Urban Policy and Action Plan (2012), the Ghana Urbanisation Review Report: Ghana Rising (2015); the Habitat III Report (2016); and Ghana’s inputs into Africa’s position on the New Urban Agenda.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his Vice Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia have recently sent $145m Dollars to 35 Municipalities through the Ghana secondary cities Programme to build up urban resilience.
Example of a beneficiary is Kwabre East Municipal, which received about GHs 76million to build Roads, Markets, provide Street Lights for the Municipality in the Ashanti Region.
In attendance were the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr. Daniel Botwe, his deputy , Mr Osei Bonsu Amoah, Minister for Works and Housing, Francis Asenso-Boakye ,Executive Secretary of the Inter-ministerial coordinating committee on Decentralisation, Mr. Dennis Edward Aboagye, Dr. Esther Ofei-Aboagye chairperson of ARHR’s Advisory Board amongst others
