The intervention, reported in October 2025, involved the distribution of various livelihood items, including deep freezers, grinding machines and mobile-money kits, to help beneficiaries engage in income-generating activities and become more financially independent.

The support forms part of efforts to improve the welfare of persons with disabilities by providing them with practical resources to participate in economic activities and contribute to the development of their communities.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for West Akim, Hon. Paulina Akabila, cautioned beneficiaries against selling the items provided to them, stressing the importance of using the support for its intended purpose.

urged the beneficiaries to consider the items as business investments that could help them earn sustainable incomes, support their families and improve their standard of living.

The distribution of deep freezers and grinding machines is expected to create opportunities for beneficiaries to venture into food-related businesses and other small-scale enterprises. Similarly, the mobile-money kits are intended to support beneficiaries interested in providing mobile financial services within their communities.

The intervention is also aimed at reducing economic barriers faced by persons with disabilities and promoting their inclusion in local economic activities.

Providing practical business equipment can help beneficiaries develop entrepreneurial skills, establish sustainable sources of income and reduce their dependence on family members and other forms of assistance.

The Assembly’s support highlights the importance of targeted interventions in addressing the needs of vulnerable groups and ensuring that persons with disabilities have opportunities to participate meaningfully in society.

Beneficiaries are expected to make productive use of the items to build sustainable businesses and improve their livelihoods.
