Speaking during a working visit to the site on Tuesday, the Mayor told journalists that the intervention became necessary after he observed severe deterioration of the road surface during his routine decongestion exercises in the city.

He explained that the stretch had developed significant potholes, created safety hazards, and slowed traffic movement along one of the busiest corridors in the capital.

“I discovered during my usual visits that this section had developed potholes, so we took the decision to quickly smoothen the surface to ease traffic congestion on the stretch,” he stated.

According to the Mayor, the Assembly also took advantage of the repair period to carry out additional works to improve sanitation and safety in the area.

These, he said include the desilting of choked drains to prevent flooding and replacement of stolen concrete slabs covering the drains with temporary wooden ones to protect pedestrians and motorists.

He noted that the main resurfacing works had been completed successfully and that the Assembly was now preparing to install pavement blocks to further enhance the durability and appearance of the road.

The Mayor commended the Roads Department and all the teams involved for working diligently within the scheduled timeframe to restore the road to a safer and more motorable condition.

He called on motorists and traders to cooperate with the Assembly as it continues efforts to maintain essential city infrastructure and improve conditions across Accra.
