Speaking on radio, DCE Linda Ahenkora said her administration, in collaboration with the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) and the Blue Water Guard, had arrested about 10 to 12 suspects in ongoing operations against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.
She reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to the fight against illegal mining, highlighting collaboration with security agencies as a key measure to clamp down on the illegal activity.
DCE Linda Ahenkora further disclosed that seized mining equipment would be dismantled and sold as scrap, with the proceeds expected to generate revenue for the Assembly.
She explained that the initiative would enable the Assembly to derive revenue from confiscated equipment while supporting efforts to address illegal mining activities.
Her comments come amid allegations surrounding anti-galamsey operations, as authorities continue efforts to protect water bodies and curb illegal mining in affected communities.
