Asunafo N Marks 40th Farmers’ Day

The 2024 Farmers’ Day Celebration at the Municipal level was marked under the theme "Building Climate- Resilience Agriculture for sustainable food security"

The Municipal Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Yaw Osei-Boahen indicated that, Climate Resilient Agriculture for Ensuring Food Security comprehensively deals with important aspects of climate resilient agriculture for food security using adaptation and mitigation measures.

Climatic changes and increasing climatic variability are likely to aggravate the problem of future food security by exerting pressure on agriculture.

He added, for the past few decades, the gaseous composition of the earth’s atmosphere has been undergoing significant changes, largely through increased emissions from the energy, industry and agriculture sectors; widespread deforestation as well as fast changes in land use and land management practices in the Municipality.

He urged the Municipal Agric Director and his staff to continuously educate farmers on best farming practices to safeguard the future of agriculture and farming in the Municipality.

He added that, Agriculture and food systems must improve and ensure food security, and to do so they need to adapt to climate change and natural resource pressures, and contribute to mitigating climate change.

He advised farmers to consider that Climate-resilient agriculture that contributes to sustainably increasing agricultural productivity and incomes, adapting and building resilience to climate change and reducing and eliminating greenhouse gas emissions where possible.

The information on climate resilient agriculture for ensuring food security is widely scattered.

Moreover, the Municipal Agric Director, Mr. Atinbeok Danlad assured farmers that they are committed and prepared to collaborate with farmers to ensure that the required skills and knowledge are given to farmers to facilitate better and sustainable farming practices.

Nana Ogyeaman Acheampong Kodua1, Chief of Ayomso encouraged Farmers across the length and breadth of the Municipality to take farming more seriously. He indicated that farming is a lucrative business therefore all are entreated to join.

He once again encouraged the youth to choose farming whenever they are considering their career pattern in life and commended the effort of the Assembly and other sponsors for making the program a success. 

He was thankful to the Municipal Chief Executive, the Coordinating Director and the Municipal Director for Agriculture for choosing Ayomso for the Municipal farmers’ day celebration.

Hon. Twum Barima, upon a critical assessment of best farming methods, practices and diversification emerged as the overall best farmer for the Municipality. The Assembly and its partners awarded the overall best farmer with a tricycle.

Hon. Twum Barima after winning this prestigious prize expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Assembly for recognizing his effort in agriculture and in farming.

He promised to consistently farm and be a good example to farmers in the Municipality and the region at large.

He indicated the importance of consistently working hand in hand with the Agric Department whenever the need arises.
