The Central Government's instituted policy of Agenda 111 which is the vehicle to provide hundred and eleven hospitals including district hospitals in Assemblies without such facilities is currently on course in various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies with the projects at various stages.
This, the Tema West Municipal Chief Executive, Anna Adukwei Addo said but for challenges with land acquisition, Tema West would have been one of the first beneficiaries of the programme. She however, expressed delight that the Assembly has finally settled on a 9 acres land at Texpo Market for the citing of the project.
The site, she noted, has already been inspected by the officials from the Office of the President. "I am very happy about this because Tema West doesn’t have a government hospital; we all troop to the Tema General Hospital or the Polyclinic in Community 2, so I'm very happy about the fact that we're going to get a hospital for the Municipality".
Currently she said the Assembly is engaging squatters and other stakeholders to get them off the land and make way for actual construction to commence.
"We are going to have other engagements with stakeholders, themselves - the leadership of the squatters and we will invite other stakeholders to be part of the meeting, so that everything would be done comprehensively. We don't want any issues; at the end of the day, a hospital for the community is very important and we have to make sure everything is done and done well", the MCE emphasised.
