Nkwanta South endorses DCE, South Tongu rejects

The Nkwanta South District Assembly hall was turned into a jamboree by Assembly members before votes were counted to confirm Mr John Thasun as District Chief Executive for the area with a 100 per cent approval.

The 44 year-old Senior High School teacher won all 43 votes cast and his supporters did not hesitate to bathe him in talcum powder amidst wild jubilation.

Mr Thasun asked the chiefs, Assembly members and the people to consider themselves shareholders in the development of the District and said his doors were opened to all,irrespective of tribal, religious or political affiliations.

He promised to consult the chiefs and opinion leaders to identify a viable factory for the District and work towards addressing water, sanitation and educational infrastructure challenges in the District.

Mr Maxwell Blagodzi, Deputy Volta Regional Minister promised to work with the District Chief Executive, ensuring that the District got its share of the national cake.

Meanwhile, the South Tongu District Assembly rejected the President's nominee, Mr. Emmanuel Louis Agamah for the position of District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area.

Out of the 58 Assembly members who voted in a poll supervised by officials of the Electoral Commission (EC), Mr Agamah, a teacher, got 28 votes representing 49 per cent, making him ineligible for a second chance.

A good number of Assembly members and Mr Agamah's supporters who were disappointed with the results quickly vacated the hall, with some calling for the revocation of membership of Government Appointees to the Assembly.

Dr Archibald Letsa, Volta Region Minister, who appeared unhappy, said will communicate the results to the President, who still has the powers to re-appoint Mr Agamah.
