Speaking to Akwasi Boduah the host of the Anopa Bosuo on Salt 95.9 FM, the lawyer admitted that the numbers of applicants for the MMDA positions are overwhelming and that is a sign of proper governance.
According to him, although a lot of people have applied for the positions, very few are qualified to hold the offices.
Many of the applicants do not qualify because they do not know their district or municipality, some have been living abroad all their life and now they want an appointment, they won’t get it” he opined.
Touching on several other issues, he expressed support for a law or act that would allow MMDCE elections because that would give the people the right to choose a person they know and believe can help their district or municipality.
He however called for calm and understanding within the party before during and after the appointments adding that whatever happens, the NPP should remain united and peaceful.
Following the expiration of the tenure of the Chief Executives of the 216 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) and impending appointments by the President to replace them, hundreds of interested persons have applied to take up the positions. Over 1300 applicants have been recorded for 216 MMDCE’S Position.
