He was confident the current government has set its priorities right by prioritizing primary healthcare as a way of ensuring access to quality health delivery especially, in the rural communities.
Mr Donkor, who said this in an interview with Ghanadistricts.com, however, took the opportunity to make a passionate appeal to philanthropists, and corporate bodies to come to their aid in the construction of a new district hospital.
The hospital, when duly completed is expected to also receive referral cases from lower facilities that lack the skills, equipment, or both to manage a given clinical condition.
He said the district has a few Community Health Planning Service compounds and clinics serving the health needs of the people but was coy that access to good healthcare was still a challenge in some communities. He cited instances where pregnant women have to travel very long distances to Ho and other surrounding communities when there is the need to go through Caesarian section.
“Residents are compelled to seek medical attention outside the district because the clinic and CHPS compound cannot provide services to critical and serious illnesses when the need arrives” he stated.
