He stated that, the nursing profession demands good interpersonal skills, emotional stability, empathy, flexibility, physical endurance and problem solving skills in order to perform effectively and efficiently. In the absence of these qualities, he said, the nursing profession is meaningless.
He was speaking at the 3rd matriculation of the Kwapong Nursing Training College at Kwapong in the Asunafo South District of the Brong Ahafo Region over the week.
Hon. Osei Bonsu said it saddens him a lot to see nurses glued to their mobile phones while there were emergencies and patients in critical conditions. He urged them to be very circumspect in their dealings and learn hard to become qualified and responsible nurses in the near future.
The Asunafo North Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Yaw Osei Boahen who was the guest speaker at the function advised the students to take their studies serious because that was the main reason they were there and prayed that his next coming would be their graduation.
The principal of the college, Kwame Adinkra mentioned in his address that, 1,070 people applied for admission but just 192 were qualified.
Outlining some challenges of the college, Mr. Adinkra mentioned that the institution finds it very difficult to send the students for clinical as a result of lack of a school bus. He appealed to government to provide the school with a bus to enable them carry out their clinical and other activities successfully.
He commended the outgoing students for working hard to come out with flying colours.
