Following this development, the Assembly has been exploring funding opportunities and options from across state and non-state actors to help deal with the situation.

At a media briefing organized by the Assembly on Tuesday, July 4,2023, the Mayor Sule Salifu took delivery of some furniture in excess of 600 and subsequently presented the same to selected schools from across a number of electoral areas to augment their stock.

Presenting the furniture, Mr. Sule Salifu admonished beneficiary communities to show interest in the management and protection of all public property including these furniture stocks so as to maximize its lifespan and outmost benefits thereof.

The Mayor added that the assembly remains committed to improving the learning environment including provision of essential teaching and learning materials for positive outcomes.
He hinted plans to use a chunk of the expected World Bank facility under the SOCO project initiative to procure a lot more furniture to benefit the rest of the affected schools in the Tamale Metropolis.

The Mayor used the occasion to show gratitude to the Minister for Local Government,Decentralization and Rural Development, Dan Botwe and indeed the Nana Addo-led NPP government for selecting the Tamale Metropolis to benefit from the SOCO intervention.

Some Assembly members of the beneficiary electoral areas were there to grace the occasion and to receive the offer for and on behalf of the target schools.

The Presiding Member for the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly Issah Abubakari who spoke on behalf of his colleagues commended the Sule Salifu led administration for the commitment over the last few years towards addressing the issue.

Issah assured management of the assembly of their community watchdog role as representatives of the people for the protection and maintenance of the furniture and to ensure that it is put to use to achieve.
