The initiative, spearheaded by the Assembly's Finance and Administration Committee, seeks to enhance local revenue generation through improved tax compliance and effective collection of rates, fees and levies.
Launching the exercise at Jinijini, the District Finance Officer, Mrs. Hilda Owusu-Kyere, appealed to residents, business operators and property owners to honour their tax obligations to enable the Assembly finance critical development projects.
She explained that strengthening the Assembly's revenue base would enhance its ability to invest in roads, sanitation, healthcare, education and other essential services required to improve living standards within the district.
Mrs. Owusu-Kyere noted that the exercise followed recommendations made during a recent General Assembly meeting and aligns with the Public Financial Management Act's objective of improving local fiscal management and accountability.
The District Chief Executive, Hon. Collins Asoma, also engaged tricycle operators, popularly known as "Pragyia" riders, urging them to comply with local tax regulations and prioritise safety measures in their operations.
He further encouraged the riders to enrol onto the National Health Insurance Scheme to ensure access to healthcare services and enhance their social protection.
Some of the riders welcomed the engagement and pledged to cooperate with the Assembly by meeting their tax obligations and supporting sanitation and development initiatives within the district.
District authorities expressed confidence that the exercise would significantly improve revenue collection and strengthen the Assembly's capacity to undertake more community development projects.
