The revenue generated was made up of Internally Generated Funds (IGF), Assembly Grants, Common Fund and NGO Grants.

Mr Kempes Ofosuware, Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), announced this in a sessional address on Monday, during the Assembly\'s first ordinary meeting of the third session.

Mr Ofosuware stated that a total expenditure of GH¢6,170,866.84 out of the estimated GH¢8,467,178.45 annual expenditure, was also recorded during the period.

He gave the breakdown of the revenue generated for the first half of the year as GH¢2,235,210.71 for IGF; GH¢3,638,293.22 for Assembly Grants; while Common Fund accounted for GH¢297,362.91.

The MCE said the Assembly grants included a windfall of GH¢1,643,581.95 from Government, for the payment of sanitation-related expenditure.

He indicated that the TMA recorded a net revenue loss of nearly GH¢400,000 in 2008, due to the carving out of the Adenta and Ashaiman Municipal Assemblies from TMA.

The Assembly recorded a total of GH¢8,756,111.42 generated revenue representing 95.88 percent of the estimated GH¢9,141,922.13 for 2008, while its expenditure for the same year was GH¢8,999,374.90 representing 98.44 percent of GH¢9,141,696.09, he stated.

On waste management, the MCE said an estimated 1,800 tonnes of refuse from the Metropolis and its surrounding municipalities are dumped daily at the Kpone landfill site.

He indicated that management of the site was carried out with hired equipment due to the malfunctioning of the assembly\'s waste management equipment.

Mr Ofosuware pleaded with the assembly members to assist the Waste Management Department to educate the residents on good waste management practices in their localities, as well as payment of refuse collection fee.

The MCE further stated under the Household Toilet System, a total of 1,700 household toilets have been constructed in the Metropolis.

He added that, within the Metropolis, there are 45 public toilets, comprising five located at Kpone, five at Sakumono and 35 at Tema Manhean.

Mr Ofosuware announced that the TMA would launch the "Tema Restoration Agenda" which would entail clean up campaigns and city beautification activities in commemoration of Dr Kwame Nkrumah\'s birthday celebration.

He said a monument would be unveiled, while a roundabout would be named, all in honour, and recognition of the first President, for creating the Tema Township, as well as the construction of the Tema Harbour.
