The project, which is part of President John Dramani Mahama’s "Resetting Agenda," is designed to boost commercial opportunities, enhance local economic growth, and create sustainable jobs within the district.
Beyond standard lockable stores and open stalls, the facility is designed as a comprehensive commercial hub. It will feature essential support infrastructure to facilitate uninterrupted, round-the-clock operations, including:
- A police station and fire station for enhanced security and safety.
- A clinic and pharmacies to handle medical needs.
- A model school and a women’s bank to support traders and their families.
- A warehouse and restaurants to service the bustling market environment.
Performing the sod-cutting ceremony alongside the Nananom (traditional leaders) of Akrofuom, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Gariba Mustapha Mohammed, noted that the project aligns with a broader government vision. He explained that similar facilities will be established across all districts nationwide to drive the 24-hour economy agenda.
Hon. Gariba expressed gratitude to President Mahama for the transformative initiative, emphasizing that it would bring immense value to local traders and stimulate the district's economy.
Speaking on behalf of the Regent of Akrofuom, Nana Asare Bediako (Ahenemahene) commended the government for the initiative. He expressed optimism that the project would be completed within the stipulated timeline and assured that the traditional authority stands ready to provide the necessary support to ensure smooth construction.
Nana Asare Bediako also praised the collaborative efforts of the Member of Parliament (MP), Hon. Joseph Azumah, and the DCE for working together to ensure that Akrofuom receives its fair share of national development.
The ultra-modern market project is expected to be fully completed and ready for use within 18 months.
