Dormaa East DCE ends farm inspection tour

Mr. Emmanuel Kofi Agyemang, the Dormaa East District Chief Executive (DCE) has ended a two-day inspection tour to a number of farms under the governments Planting for Food and Jobs (PfFJs) and other agriculture programmes in the area.

The tour, started on Thursday to some selected demonstration farms was to check the implementation of the PfFJs, Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD) and how farmers and the District Directorate of Agriculture were managing the farms under the Modernising Agriculture in Ghana (MAG) programme.

Mr. Agyemang, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said the monitoring was also to ascertain the level of success of those programmes and their impact to improve the socio-economic livelihoods of the people.

He stated the PfFJs, PERD and MAG programmes were on course in the District and expressed the believed that if managed effectively nationwide, it had the potential to push forward the Ghana Beyond Aid agenda and make it sustainable.

Maize and cashew farms located in 15 communities including Kofi Nti Shed, Miwirenfiriwuo, Kyeremaasu, Dormaa-Akwamu and Wamanafoo in the District were visited.

Out of surprise for the well-grown, green and blossom nature of the farms, Mr. Agyemang simply lauded President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the introduction of those programmes, commended the Canadian government for her financial support and also the agriculture extension agents (AEAS) of the District Agriculture Directorate for a very

good job done on the field.

He stated the programmes could enable Ghana to attain food security for Ghana to export surplus food and end food importation.

Mr. Agyemang entreated farmers who have not as yet registered under the programmes â€œto come on boardâ€ to reap high but quantity yield to make more money to enhance their socio-economic livelihoods.

To ensure inclusiveness of Persons With Disabilities in the administration of the District and the recognition of their contributions towards the Districts development, the DCE visited

physically-challenged and a visually-impaired in their farmers to congratulate them on their efforts.

Mr. Agyemang on Friday ended the tour with a commencement of free distribution of 500,000 cashew seedlings for more than 2,000 registered farmers in the District.

He said 205,700 cashew seedlings and farm inputs were given to farmers free in 2018 and applauded those beneficiary farmers for making progress.
