NCCE promotes Women Participation in the Electoral Process

Welcoming participants, the municipal director of the Commission Mr. Patrick Tampugre said the engagement aimed at ensuring transparent, accountable governance and the promotion of inclusive dialogue within societies.
He hoped that through the engagement they will be empowered to understand the importance of women’s participation in democracy and national development which include the right to vote and be elected into office, take active roles in the democratic process, hold elected officials accountable and guarantee that public policies are transparent as well as sensitive to the demands of the people.
The Nkosohemaa of the Atebubu traditional area Nana Akosua Gyambea said the lack of resources especially finances and the attitude of women towards their fellow women serves as a hindrance to their progress.
She however drew examples from the bravely of the legendary Yaa Asantewaa and urged women to support each other to enable them occupy their rightful place in society.
Pastor Nelson Aho of the Galilean Prayer Ministry took participants through a practical demonstration of purpose, focus, tenacity and perseverance adding that women must always strive to subdue whatever impediments they face in their march towards progress in society.
He urged them to take advantage of the enormous power that they wield naturally so as to be able to take advantage of unique opportunities provided them by society .
Participants identified education among others as one of the most important stumbling blocks in the way of women in their quest to move up the social ladder. They also made a number of suggestions towards ensuring that women take active roles in the democratic process.
Mr. Eric Djabatey a program officer at the NCCE headquarters who represented the director of programmes urged the women to desist from sharing unverified information on social media since this could lead to misinformation and disinformation which the law frowns upon.
Participants expressed their gratitude to the Commission and their benefactors and urged them to come up with more of such engagements to help meet the desired objectives.
Participants were selected from among market women, trade associations, queen mothers, religious groups and the disabled.
