36th Farmer’s Day Celebration at Bondye
The Municipal Chief Executive of the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality Hon. Isaac Dasmani (Ph.D.) was happy to be in the midst of farmers whose toil played an important role in the development of the Municipality. In his address, he said without Agriculture we cannot realize the United Nation sustainable development goal which requires that we seek sustainable solutions to end hunger in all its forms. Since independence agriculture has been the backbone of the country, He added.

According to him, the lesson of covid 19 has created a new sense of awareness about building a strong food resilient and other dependence on import. His focus is to see agriculture as a business that responds to the economic growth of the country and not to only feed the household. This he said Planting for food and jobs will help to address the food challenges. He was impressed with the importance of the theme (Ensuring Agribusiness Development under covid 19 challenges and opportunities) as it will help cut down import bills and create employment, poverty reduction, ensures food security, and raising the income level of farmers and fishermen. If everybody is well fed, they will be able to contribute their quate to national development he added.
In other to reduce Post-harvest losses the government is constructing feeder roads, warehouses and improving market places. Dr. Dasmani stressed that five years tax holiday has been given to Ghanaian owned agro processing companies which use locally produced agricultural inputs like the raw material base. Also, Seven Thousand Four Hundred (7400) oil palm seedlings have been distributed to farmers within the Municipality with the help of the Mineral Development Fund. Three Thousand Five Hundred and Fifty-One (3651) farmers were registered with DCAT. One Thousand One Hundred and Seventy-Two (1172) farmers. Three Thousand Six Hundred and Eight (3608) subsidized fertilizers, Two Thousand Four Hundred and Seventy-Five (2475) seed maize were supplied to farmers by September. Also, Free chemicals for fall armyworm were given out for 906 acres of land.
Mr. Gabriel Agyaglo the Municipal Agric Director suggested to the various institutions to adopt various categories of the farmer’s day awards to make it unique in the country. Just as AngloGold Ashanti is sponsoring the overall best Municipal Best farmers Award, and Goldfields Damang mine is sponsoring the overall Municipal best farmers award. He said he can see the path given way to a new dawn where agriculture would no more be treated as a way of life because of how the government flagship programmer is doing well in the Municipality.
Mr. Akoka Salifu of (Bondye Mempeasem) was adjudged the overall best municipal best farmer. He was given a Tricycle, 4 Wellington. Boots, 10 Fertilizer, 4 Knapsack, 4 Cutlass, 4 Insecticide, 4 Weedicide, 2 Watering Can, 1 Radio, 1 Flat Screen TV, and 1 Wax Print. Mr. Forda Raphael Kwasi of Wassa Asikuma has also adjudged the 1st runner-up. He was given a tricycle 4 Wellington Boot, 10 Fertilizers, 4 Knapsacks, 4 Cutlass, 4 Insecticides, 4 Weedicide, 2 Watering cans, 1 Radio, 1 Mattress 1 Flat Screen TV, 1 Wax Print, 1 Refrigerator, and 1 Bicycle. Madam Lydia Tawiah of Amoanda. Who was the overall best Female farmer received a Tricycle, 4 Wellington Boots, 5 Fertilizer, 1 Knapsack, 4 Cutlass, 1) Sewing Machine, 1) Radio, 1) Iron Sheet, 1) Flat Screen TV and a 0.5 piece Wax Print.
