The programme, which targets unemployed and vulnerable youth across the district, is equipping beneficiaries with hands-on training in key trades including carpentry, tailoring, welding, hairdressing, and auto mechanics. With unemployment remaining a major concern in many parts of the country, Birim South’s proactive embrace of artisanship is being hailed as a model for grassroots economic transformation.
Hon. Taaju Abdu Rahim emphasized that the initiative is not just about training but about creating pathways to independence and dignity. According to him, empowering young people with employable skills is central to reducing poverty, curbing rural-urban migration, and building a resilient local economy. He noted that the Assembly is committed to supporting trainees with mentorship and linking them to opportunities that will help them establish their own businesses after completion.
Community leaders and stakeholders have welcomed the move, describing it as timely and impactful. Many believe the apprenticeship drive will not only tackle youth unemployment but also revive respect for technical and vocational careers, which are increasingly vital to Ghana’s development agenda.
As the National Apprenticeship Program gathers momentum in Birim South, the district is positioning itself as a rising hub for skilled craftsmanship and youth innovation. With strong leadership and a clear vision, the Assembly’s bold investment in human capital is expected to yield long-term dividends for both individuals and the broader local economy.
