Social Welfare impacts youth development in La Dade Kotopon
The Social Welfare department of the La Dade Kotopon Municipal Assembly is keen on ending child prostitution and homosexuality and has thus instituted measures to help address the menace.

The Department in collaboration with the Education Directorate in charge of girl child education mobilized pupils within the La Municipality for a 3-day education on child prostitution and homosexuality.

Explaining some of the causes of the phenomenon of child prostitution and homosexuality in the municipality, Mr. Solomon Kotey Nikoi, the Municipal Chief Executive for the area said poverty, broken homes, parental neglect and poor parenting were identified as contributing to it.

Taking a step further to deal with the situation he said another session, which was centered on parents constantly monitoring their children to know the company they keep, was also held for some selected parents and youth at Patapa We, a suburb within the Municipality and was attended by 232 people out of which 138 were females and 94 males.

Similarly, on drug use and abuse, the department in collaboration with the Narcotic Control Commission educated or sensitized 522 youth and community members on the cases and negative effects of drug and substance abuse at areas like Abafum, Abese, Kowe, and Burma Camp Electoral Areas.
