Yilo Krobo: Bukrum JHS Shuts Down Over Building Collapse

School authorities at Bukrum-Agavernya Junior High School near Klo-Agogo in the Yilo Krobo district of the Eastern region have shutdown the school indefinitely after a rainstorm ripped of the roof which was already in tatters and collapsing.

The mud-made classroom block built by the community in 1973 to serve four communities in the enclave has been deteriorating posing danger to the pupils and teachers.

The walls have developed deep cracks and gradually falling apart. The school shuts down whenever the cloud gathers.

Last Monday’s rainstorm has displaced pupils with the teachers struggling to get a temporal classroom.

According to Headmaster of the School, Michael Teye, since the incident occurred, a small tree nearby the school has been sheltering the pupils and teachers despite the harsh whether condition, a situation management of the School say they cannot endure anymore hence the decision to temporarily close down the school until further notice.

He said the Ghana Education Service, Yilo Krobo Municipal Chief Executive and officials of the National Disaster Management Organizations (NADMO) have all been made aware about the situation but nothing reassuring has been heard.

In a separate Development, Tsremati-Yoyim D/A Primary School also in Yilo Krobo Municipality which has existed for the past five years without a classroom block also had its makeshift office facility destroyed by the rainstorm causing damages to the few teaching and learning materials available.
