Upper East inaugurates Retired Directors of Education Association
Association of Retired Directors of Education has been inaugurated in Bolgatanga to help address the numerous challenges confronting the education sector in the Upper East Region.

Inaugurating it, Mr Daniel Syme, Deputy Regional Minister, lauded the initiative, which he said was the first of its kind in the country.
He expressed optimism that the association would assist in addressing the series of strike in schools in the region and the poor performance of students in the Basic Certificate Examination and the West Africa Senior High School Certificate Examination .
Mr Syme said: œOur doors are... opened at all times for any collaborative activity that you may have that is geared at enhancing education in the Upper East Region since most of you are very familiar with the terrain and therefore are at better positions to advice.
He assured members that the Regional Co-ordinating Council would assist them to establish a secretariat.
Mr Robert Ajene, Chairman of the association said it would provide consultancy services, offer advice and organise regular seminars for teachers in the region with the aim of ensuring quality education.
The association, would support educational institutions through counselling sessions to settle differences and disputes, which leads to industrial actions and destruction of property.
Mr Francis Ayaaba , Secretary to the association expressed regret that most often people who have no knowledge on educational issues are called upon to provide solutions to education problems which at times backfire.
He indicated that the retired educationists are very experienced and have the needed expertise to help provide solutions to the problems confronting education.
Dr Atinga Mba, Rector of Bolgatanga Polytechnic who chaired the function entreated the media to consult the association members whenever they are undertaking programmes related to education.
Mr Yakubu Bashiru, Coordinator of Link Community Development an NGO with focus on education said the inauguration of the association would pave way for members to tackle educational needs in the region.
