Alfred Asiedu Adjei extols Accra Mayor over unprecedented achievement

The Presiding Member for the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) Alfred Asiedu Adjei has lauded Madam Elizabeth Naa Kwatsoe Tawiah Sackey, over what he described as unprecedented achievement in just three years of her reign as Metropolitan Chief Executive of the area.

According to him, the Mayor since her appointment in 2021 has strived to make significant interventions in every important sector of the economy, a move he added, is yielding positive results.

The PM, who was speaking in an interview with Ghanadistricts TV, further extols the MCE for performing immensely in areas like revenue mobilization, social interventions, education, health, waste management, climate change and cooperation between AMA and government among others thereby breathing life back to the work of the assembly and bringing hope to the people.

Education

Highlighting on some successes chalked in the area of education, Mr. Asiedu Adjei widely known as Paa Joe revealed that under the leadership of Madam Elizabeth Sackey, the assembly is constructing a significant number of school facilities for some selected basic schools to eliminate shift system and overcrowding in classrooms.

He added that the assembly has also supplied thousands of furniture and other study materials to various schools to help enhance teaching and learning.

Poverty alleviation

He again commended the MCE for playing instrumental role in some key pro-poor policies to support the poor and the needy in the urban communities.

He mentioned the Livelihood Empowerment against Poverty (LEAP) and other skills training programs for the poor or the marginalized as well as provision of safe haven and shelters for abandoned children as some key interventions over the years.

Revenue Mobilization

On revenue generation, the Presiding Member added that the MCE’s enforcement of the digitization of payment processes, e-payment and online transactions, Revenue mobilization taskforce, expansion of the Assembly’s revenue base to include those in the informal sector has drastically improved the Assemblies revenue mobilization.

Waste management

Touching on waste management which has become a canker in the metropolis, Mr. Asiedu Adjei again alluded that the introduction of waste segregation at source and inclusion of the informal waste collectors in the decision making processes of the Assembly is helping win the fight against waste management in the central business district.

He added that informal waste collectors in the area have been urged to form cooperatives in order to enable the Assembly to monitor their work.

He called on all to support the MCE in her quest to improve the living conditions of the people.
