Banda district inaugurates election security taskforce

A taskforce to ensure the security of the 2016 general elections in the Banda District has been inaugurated at Banda Ahenkro, the District capital of the Banda District Assembly in the Brong Ahafo region.

Inaugurating the taskforce at the District administration, the District Chief Executive for Banda, Hon. Jacob Boateng tasked the taskforce to ensure that the elections were organized in an atmosphere devoid of violence and intimidation to ensure free and fair elections.

He enjoins the taskforce to be neutral in its dealings with all the contesting parties to ensure a level playing field for everybody.

On his part, the Chairman of the taskforce and Wenchi Divisional Police Commander, ACP Peter Gyima assured the District Chief Executive working hard to ensure peaceful election. “We are going to be fair, firm and neutral in all our work” ACP Gyima added.

He however appealed to the Banda District Assembly to provide the taskforce with the needed resources to make its work successful. He said the District and for that matter the taskforce cannot take chances on with the excuse of lack of resources.

ACP Gyima further stated that the Banda District has been identified as a flash point and hence the need for the taskforce to start work as soon as possible to engage the relevant stakeholders on all lingering issues to solicit their support to ensure peace before, during and after the elections.

The taskforce is made up of the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, the Bureau of National Investigations, National Commission for Civic Education, Information Services Department, the District Coordinating Director and the Electoral Commission.

The District Finance Officer and the National Disaster Management Organization have been co-opted into the taskforce.
