Mr. Otoo, who is also a native of Ada, commended the Ada Traditional Council for its bold decision to allow investors into the extraction of salt in the Songor Lagoon, stressing the need to protect and cooperate with such investors to ensure sustainable development of the area.
In an interview at Sege, Mr. Otoo said that the presence of investors was crucial to fostering economic growth and called for a common ground that accommodates all stakeholders.
He noted that the traditional council had taken an impressive step by partnering with the government to bring in an investor to develop the Songor Lagoon, describing it as a historic move for the Ada Traditional Area.
He, however, expressed concern over the Council’s limited engagement and communication with members of the community, particularly those living around the lagoon.
Mr. Otoo stressed that salt, unlike other natural resources, was inexhaustible, adding that the land was vast enough to support both local producers and large-scale investors.
He added that the investors could target the international market to allow the locals to also sell in the local market, explaining that this would foster coexistence among all stakeholders.
He urged the community to dialogue with the investor, warning that the area could not afford to lose such development partners.
Highlighting the broader potential of Ada, he said tourism and recreational investments could also thrive, adding, “We have the sea, river, fertile land, beautiful mangrove areas and other natural assets that can be developed to make Ada one of the richest areas in Ghana.”
