Ga Ladies Association supports Tema Maternity Clinic

The TMA Maternity and Children's Clinic have received a suction machine and plastic chairs from the Ga Ladies Association in Tema to help improve the quality of service rendered to the public.

The 12-bed capacity facility, which is located on the premises of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) Headquarters, is mostly patronized by Community One residents, market women, and other persons from various parts of the Metropolis and beyond who travel to transact business in the city centre.

Services rendered by the clinic included antenatal, delivery, postnatal, ophthalmic, laboratory, pharmacy, ultrasound, HIV (PMTCI/STI), and Integrated Management of Neonatal and Childhood Illness (IMNCI), recording a total of 904 adults and 1,123 IMNCI outpatient attendance in 2018.

Mrs. Cathrine Awuku Quartey, Head of the TMA Maternity and Children's Clinic, told the Ghana News Agency that the suction machine would enable her outfit to clean the chest of newly born babies, as well as clear congestion on children who might have choked on substances.

Mrs. Quartey said prior to the receiving of the suction machine, medical officers at the clinic did manual suctioning and sometimes had to refer clients to major hospitals.

She commended the Association for always supplying some of their pressing needs and appealed to corporate organizations, groupings and philanthropists to help the clinic to acquire an oxygen machine and other logistics.

The staff of the clinic used the occasion to present a citation to the Association for their continuous support to the facility.

The Association which had been in existence for the past five years, had as part of its mission, to bring hope and smiles to infants and adolescents in Tema.

It had presented several items to the Clinic and the Community Adolescent Corner to help provide efficient services to clients.
