The District Chief Executive for Agona East, Hon. Martin Luther Obeng has described allegations of corruption made against him by some assembly members as totally baseless assertions which must be treated with the contempt that it deserves.
According to him, the purpose of these unfounded claims is intended to discredit his hard won reputation as an upright politician and also form part of a grand scheme to get him dismissed from office, a wish he confidently said will never happen.
Some disgruntled assembly members have come public, accusing the DCE of engaging in corrupt practices which is not promoting development of the districts.
They claim Hon. Martin Luther Obeng has embezzled funds belong to association of physically challenged persons in the area to purchase a bus which is working for him, bought lots of tipper trucks and also siphoned assembly funds to establish his private company, among other accusations.
However speaking on Accra based Okay FM on Wednesday 8th January 2014, Hon. Martin Luther Obeng rubbished the allegation stating emphatically that there was absolutely no truth in the issues raised.
He explained that as a DCE he has no direct access to funds belonging to physically challenged persons, adding that a management committee established by law administers that fund efficiently.
Hon. Martin Luther Obeng denied buying any trucks with public funds and also setting up a company when he assumed power, explaining that he established the company while a student at the University of Cape Coast and has delegated the administration of the firm to capable management while he concentrates on his work as the DCE.
He noted that he was ready to subject himself to investigations by any state agency on the allegations levelled against him, as he is confident he would not be found complicit.
Hon. Luther Obeng related that he was in politics not to enrich himself but to improve the wellbeing of the good people of Agona East and also to make a point that given the opportunity some young political appointees’ are very competent to deliver their mandate efficiently.
