The Rural Enterprise Project (REP) has supported 30 graduate
apprentices in the Amansie West District with basic tools worth GH¢ 10,000 to enable them to start their own business.
The beneficiaries who were trained at the instance of REP, included hairdressers, barbers, dressmakers, welders, auto electricians, carpenters and masons.
Making the presentation at Manso Nkwanta, the district capital, the head of Business Advisory of the REP in the district, Mr. Kwame Agyenim Boateng, said since its inception in the district, the REP had provided basic equipment to 60 graduate apprentices, and also provided start up capital worth GH¢ 1,600 to the graduates.
He stated that the REP targeted at reducing poverty amongst the people in the rural communities and therefore urged the people to embrace the project.
The District Chief Executive, Mr. Charles Oti Prempeh, said the government alone could not shoulder the responsibility of providing jobs for the people.
He said it was in that vein that government appreciated the role of other organisations in that respect.
He stated that the issue of start-up capital had been a problem to many fresh graduate apprentices that was why support from various sources was always welcome.
Mr. Oti Prempeh said the situation had arisen because most of the banks were reluctant to support the graduates.
He urged the beneficiaries to take good care of the equipment to obtain maximum benefit.
