Mr. Clement Akugre Atia, Bongo District Chief Executive (DCE), has identified smuggling as a major cause of fuel shortage, especially petrol in the Upper East Region.  

He alleged that some people smuggled fuel to Burkina Faso and cautioned that any one caught engaging in the practice would be severely dealt with.   

Mr Atia in an interview with GNA on Friday said he would revive the
fuel smuggling task force in the District to handle the situation.   

He said the smugglers usually concealed fuel in containers under grass and millet in vehicles and transported to Burkina Faso.   

Mr. Atia appealed to his colleague DCEs and security agencies in the region to support the fight against smuggling of fuel.
