Friends of Rivers and Waterbodies, an NGO committed to environmental protection and conservation nation-wide, has launched the fouth phase of its programme of afforestation of the banks of Lake Bosomtwe, a major tourist attracction in the Ashanti Region.

The NGO, in collaboration with Citi Link Airline Limited, planted about 350 coconut seedlings during the exercise.

They were also supported by the youth wing of the Church of God, which is currently holding a national conference in Kumasi.

The president of the NGO, NanaKwabena Dwomoh-Sarpong, said the afforestation programme constitutued the NGO’s modest contribution towards the protection of the lake.

He urged Ghanains to take envoronmental issue very seriously, stressing that "Environmental protection should be everybody’s business".
