The Akim Swedru circuit court in the Birim South District, has remanded in prison custody, two friends for allegedly possessing a quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

Kofi Atta, a trader and Kwaku Asabre, a miner, whose pleas were not taken by the court which was presided over by Mr Kofi Akrowiah, would reappear on May 6, 2009.

Police Chief Inspector Ben Osei Kodwo told the court that on January 14, this year, the police had a tip off that some people were dealing in narcotic drugs.

Chief Inspector Kodwo said the police then moved to the scene near the Asamankese Presbyterian primary and junior high school where Atta and Asabre were arrested together with 65 wrappers and quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp (wee) placed in a silver tray.

He said during interrogation Atta and Asabre denied ownership of the drug, which had since been forwarded to the police forensic crime laboratory in Accra, adding that the police is still investigating to apprehend the accomplices.
