Headmaster of Ejuraman Senior High School has asked teachers to endeavour to understand the socio-cultural practices of the local communities where they operate to avoid unnecessary friction.

Mr Gove A. Hulede said better understanding of the values, interests and aspirations of the people would help them to effectively adjust and tailor educational programmes to meet their needs.

Mr Hulede made the call when addressing the Third Delegates Conference of Ejura-Sekyedumase District branch of Ghana National Association of Teachers at Ejura.

Attended by 42 delegates, it was under the theme “The Teacher as the Pivot of National Development: Political and Professional Challenges”.

He said there was the need for teachers to accept to play the role of “a Counsellor” by helping to prevent children from making “unwise choices.”

Nana Fred Kodua Basoa, Ejura-Sekyedumase District Director of Education in an address read for him, appealed to leadership of GNAT to encourage their members to unite and work harder to fight for better remuneration.

He said they should in addition, educate the members on operations of the “Teachers’ Fund” to avoid malpractices by the banking and non-financial banking institutions through “very high interest charges on loans.”

Mr Abraham Bonsu, Ashanti Regional Secretary of GNAT, educated the delegates on the new Pension Scheme, which would bring more benefits to teachers.

He called on teachers in the district to resolve to work hard to improve the level of education in the district.
