The farmers were celebrated at a special ceremony held at Darmang under the theme, “Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the Future.” The event brought together farmers, traditional and religious leaders, Assembly members and staff, political party representatives, sponsors and other stakeholders.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon Philibert Selorm Fummey who led the Assembly to celebrate the farmers, commended them for their hard work and determination in nurturing the land and providing food and other essential agricultural products for communities.
He particularly congratulated the Overall Municipal Best Farmer and other award recipients for their outstanding contributions to agriculture. He noted that their willingness to adopt modern farming practices and improve productivity served as an inspiration to other farmers, particularly the youth.
Addressing the gathering, the MCE reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to making agriculture a profitable and attractive venture within the Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipality.
He said the Assembly would continue to support initiatives aimed at encouraging more young people to venture into agriculture, while working to implement government agricultural policies and programmes designed to boost food production and create employment opportunities.
Among the initiatives highlighted were the government’s “Nkoko Nkitinkitin” programme and plans to establish farming centres within the municipality to support farmers and strengthen agricultural activities.
The MCE stressed that developing the agricultural sector remains important to improving livelihoods, creating jobs and ensuring food security, adding that greater attention must be given to agriculture as a viable economic opportunity for the younger generation.
He expressed appreciation to the Department of Agriculture for its efforts in organizing the event, as well as the Traditional Authorities, Religious Leaders, sponsors, stakeholders, Assembly staff and members, political party representatives and residents for their support.
The celebration ended with renewed recognition of the vital role farmers play in the municipality and a call for continued investment and support to make agriculture more productive, sustainable and attractive to the youth.
