The DCE has thus made a clarion call on all Ghanaians to take up farming as a full or part-time activity.
She said farmers benefited from the government subsidize fertilizer and some improved variety of seeds under the programme, adding that “the programme still continues this year though farmers would have to make full payment before they receive their fertilizer unlike in the previous year”she stresses.
Also touching on the One village One Dam initiative, the DCE noted the policy seeks to engage farmers in all year farming in order to make Ghana a net exporter of most foodstuff. She disclosed that some sites in Nanvilli,Kulpieni, Kpazie,Serekpere,Bilee,Tangasia,Kuuri,Janguasi and Chaang have been identified for the construction of dug outs and when these are constructed, it will help keep the young generation from migrating to urban centres for nonexistent jobs.
Mrs Lankono made this known on Sunday in Nadowliduring at the Senior Citizens day Celebration.
She called on all to use this year’s Republic Day Celebration as an occasion to begin the process of consensus building to solve some of the difficulties that confronts the country.
Senior Citizens Day celebration presents an opportunity for several pensioners to dine and wine with one another and top government officials and reflect on the political and Socio-economic strides that the country has achieved since attaining its Republican status in 1960.
This day is usually marked with luncheon parties for a cross section of the senior citizens in all the regions. In Nadowli, the DCE uses the luncheon to interact with senior citizens who are invited to the function.
Some of the Senior Citizens who were shared their happiness, said the day is not just for only merrymaking but also for re-union.
They thanked the DCE for marking the day with them and prayed for the DCE to go higher than she is now
Meanwhile, the DCE has also revealed that, government is also working on expanding the Social Protection Policy, LEAP to include more beneficiaries and provides cash grants to the extremely poor and vulnerable and the aged persons in Society so that they could meet their basic needs for survival’’.
