Obuasi East District Assembly Outlines Measures to Improve Revenue Mobilization

As stipulated in the Local Governance Act (936), MMDAs have the primary responsibility to provide basic infrastructure such as Schools, Hospitals, extension of electricity, provision of potable water and other Services.

In view of this, the Obuasi East District Assembly has resolved to embark on rigorous Revenue mobilization drive to enable it cater for the needs of its people. The District Chief Executive for the District Hon Faustina Amissah made this known at a General Assembly meeting held at the District Assembly Hall.

Key to the measures include;

• Reviewing the existing data to reflect the current economic rates.

• Embark on data collection exercise on various revenue items.

• Organize training for Revenue Staff to sharpen their skills and capacities to work effectively.

• Acquire robust mini bus and pick up vehicles for Revenue Staff and Works Department for effective work permit and revenue mobilization.

• Operate a Revenue Taskforce to mobilize for all lock up revenues payable to the Assembly.

Hon. Amissah called on the General public to pay their fees and levies to the Assembly to enable the Assembly supply their needs.

Giving account of her stewardship to the House, the DCE stated that a team from the Chief of Staff office has completed feasibility studies on the proposed land for the District hospital. This she added will give the greenlight for the official commencement of work. ” Management is in talks with authorities to ensure that Obuasi East is included in the first batch of beneficial districts”, she stressed

On the Covid-19 vaccination, the DCE disclosed that so far, 8,769 people have successfully been vaccinated in the first phase of the exercise in the District. Out of this figure 3,782 are males whiles 4,987 are females.

On tourism, Hon. Faustina Amissah recounted the benefits in the tourism sector. She said it is important for the District to harness its tourism potentials.

As a result of this, she proposed that the Assembly should take steps to mobilize all the ethnic groups in the schools and set aside a date for which all these cultural activities would be on display to attract tourists from all walks of life.

The District Police Commander DSP Martin Assenso briefing the Assembly on the security situation in the district lauded the Assembly members for their role in sustaining the existing peace. He said the Assembly members have been forthcoming with information to the Police Command which has enabled the Police to proactively deal with situations.
