BIA W: DCE completes familiarization tour of communities

Mr. Alexander Ofori has successfully ended his familiarization tour of the Bia West District since his assumption of office after his endorsement by the Assembly members.

The tours which kick started in January at Essam went through a number of communities before ending successfully in March at Akaatiso.

It was organized in the form of community durbars in twenty (20) communities.

He paid courtesy calls on Nananom and People of the District to officially introduce himself to the people and also interact with the various communities in the District.

His visits took him to Essam, Debiso, Kwamebihkrom, Asuopri, Pillar 34, Bokorkrom, Yawmatwa, Nsowaakrom, Kojoaba, Yawmatwa Nkwanta, Oseikojokrom, Kwametawiahkrom, Adjoafua, Asuontaa, Elluokrom, Kakenabo, Amoashed, Yellow Camp, Abosikrom and Akaatiso

The visit was also used to gather first hand information on the developmental needs of the various communities in the District.

In his speech in all the communities he visited, Hon Alexander Ofori thanked Nananom, Hon. Assembly Members and people of the district for the overwhelming endorsement by the Assembly. 

He said as key stakeholders in Local Government Service Delivery, there was the need to call on them to show his appreciation and also interact with them on broader variety of issues that bother on Service delivery in the Bia West District.

He assured Nananom and people of the district of his commitment to collaborate with them to develop the District. He also said the office of the assembly is open for suggestions, criticisms and support to help develop the district.

Hon. Alexander Ofori also called on the people of the district to continue to fulfill their Tax Obligations to the District and country to ensure adequate mobilization of Revenue to develop the District.

He also called on Nananom and people to continue to embrace the National Sanitation Day Clean-up Exercise which is organized every first Saturday of every month to rid the entire District off filt and ensure healthy living.

The Hon. DCE also advised the people to endeavor to maintain the peace in the District before, during and after the 2016 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections scheduled for November, 2016.

He also advised the communities along the borders of  Ivory Coast to desist from smuggling  cocoa beans, agric inputs, fuel etc to neighboring Ivory Coast and said smuggling is causing a lot of losses to our country.

Furthermore, the Hon. DCE encouraged the people to desist from encroaching on forest lands and illegal logging of wood in order to preserve our forests.

He reiterated the Assembly’s resolve not to entertain illegal mining (Galamsey) and urged the people to be vigilant in the various communities and not hesitate to report to the Assembly and the Security Agencies any acts of illegal mining in the District.

The various communities also shared their challenges. Notable among the problems facing the various communities included lack of portable water, deplorable nature of roads, broken bridges, need for classroom blocks, non completion of developmental projects in some communities, lack of toilet facilities, urgent need for CHPS compounds/health centre, building of markets, electrification among others.

Hon. Alexander Ofori assured the chiefs and people of his resolve and that of the Assembly to work hard to ensure that their developmental needs are met.

He however, called on the various communities as well as NGOs to take up community initiated projects since the Assembly and the government alone cannot meet all the developmental needs of the people.

Nananom and people of the various communities thanked the DCE for making time out of his busy schedules to call on them. They also assured the DCE of their commitment and resolve to fully collaborate with the Assembly to develop the District and better the lives of the people.
