KPONE K: Gbetsile Dam to be reconstructed

According to him, the move is in line with the government’s “One-Village-One-Dam” policy to ensure erratic rainfall does not inhibit agriculture production.
Mr. Appiah addressing audience at the District assembly meeting said “preparations are far advanced for the Dam to be reconstructed”.
Construction of the Gbetsile Dam which started some years ago was abandoned for a long time but would soon see life following the decision by the assembly to select it for one of government’s flagship programmes aimed at giving meanings to agriculture production in Ghana.
The DCE also disclosed that not only will the dam be reconstructed but the adjourning lands secured to promote the all – year-round irrigation farming concept.
He added that, the project if completed will yield agriculture business, provide direct and indirect jobs to farmers and the youth at the area, reduce unemployed labour in the District and also attract investors.
“This project can provide several direct and indirect jobs to our farmers and its concomitant job potential along the production chain”, he added.
To this end, the DCE assured the chief of Gbetsile of his commitment and resolve to see to the implementation and completion of the project.
The Akuffo Addo led government has come out clear with its resolve to use agriculture to turn the country’s economic fortunes around leading to the introduction of a number of policies in the agriculture sector including; “Planting for Food and Jobs”, “One-Village-One-Dam” among others.
