In his welcoming address, the Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu assured them that when new Municipal and District Chief Executives are sworn into office, he would change the narrative where some district assemblies for a number of years have failed to elect Presiding Members.

He said the vacuum created is causing some financial loss to such assemblies stressing that once there are no Presiding Members in office certain funding does not come.

Hon. Yakubu called on the Assembly members to put aside political affiliations and work as a people with a common destiny to attract developments to their respective assemblies.

He told them in a clear language that he was ready to work with the Members of Parliaments of the opposition party because he has only one Member of Parliament (MP) in the entire region hence failure to properly and effectively collaborate with them would deny the region its share of developments.

The President of the Upper East branch of the association, David Adoliba of Bawku Municipal Assembly said the interest of the association is to support the welfare of the members.

He said the Association met His Excellency the President sometime back and they demanded that their Ex-gratia should come from the consolidated fund but not assembly and also amend the clause in the Standing Orders stating 2/3 of members present to elect District Chief Executive.
