The aim of the programme is to ensure increased food production, and also complement the cultivation of cocoa in the area.
Mr. Mensah noted this during his tour to some communities to educate the local indigenes about the need to engage in agriculture, especially, the production of rice and pepper. He said, the move, is in line with government’s efforts to create more jobs for the teaming unemployed youth in the country.
The DCE, who made his first stop at Akyempim, a mining community in the district, interacted with youth and urged them to take keen interest in the new programme rather than engaging in illegal mining activities (“galamsey”).
Meanwhile, speaking in an interview with Ghanadistricts.com, Ignatius Assah Mensah also disclosed that the assembly, as part of efforts to ensure that the programme is fully realized, has developed incentive packages like provisions of free seedlings and other agric inputs to encourage youth to venture into agric-businesses.
He was optimistic that the programme will positively affect the lives of the people by providing them with jobs.
He added that the Assembly will focus on two key areas, manufacturing and technological skills to help create the required jobs.
