The delegation led by the Mayor of Houston, Mr Sylvester Turner was in the country on an eight-day trade and investment drive to explore opportunities and strengthen the existing political ties between Ghana and Houston.

In his opening statement, Mayor Turner congratulated the Mayor of Accra for her leadership and stressed that the delegation was in Ghana to strengthen the relationship between the city of Houston and Accra.

"We are looking at ways to further the relationship and build on it in several areas. This is a smaller portion of the 30-member delegation, we have people from the Texas Medical Center, Houston Port Authority, Houston Airport System, and the Technology and Innovation Sector.

We have the Director of the Houston Sports Authority, people from the General Business Community, and the Energy Sector as well. We’re looking at ways that we can partner to establish mutual relationships that will be a win-win for both cities," he said.

The Mayor of Accra, who welcomed the delegation outlined her vision towards women's empowerment in the city and reiterated that the Assembly through its Planning and Coordinating Unit provides leadership in the planning, implementation and evaluation of development projects and programmes in the Assembly.

"No decision, policy or activity is taken, formulated and executed without engaging residents. We don't just wake up and act, we consult and engage residents through town hall meetings before programmes are undertaken," she said.

She disclosed that as part of efforts to drum home the essence of protecting the environment and get city dwellers to #ActInTime, the first climate clock would soon be installed in the Central Business District of Accra counting down the time remaining for humans to prevent global warming rising above 1.5°C.

She also expressed joy at the opportunity to twin with the city of Houston to promote arts and culture, tourism, investment, and education among others to the benefit of the two cities.
