Sagnarigu Assembly/RING presents ruminants to women

Sagnarigu District Assembly in collaboration with the Resiliency in Northern Ghana (RING) project has presented 103 small ruminants to 25 targeted vulnerable women in the Kunyevila community.

This year alone, a total number of 796 ruminants were distributed to 193 beneficiaries in 9 communities within the district.

 

The beneficiary communities include Batangyili, Salamba, Gumani, Gbolo Kpalsi, Kpaintariga, Dugushegu, Dungu and the Kylnyevila.

 

The RING intervention is implemented through a collaborative approach with the District Assemblies (DAs) in Northern Region and the Northern Regional Coordinating Council (NRCC) to improve the livelihood and nutritional status of vulnerable households in targeted communities in Northern Region.

 

 

The distribution of the small ruminants, falls under the livelihood and agriculture component of the RING project, is to ensure increased access and consumption of diverse quality food among target households, especially among women and children under five.

 

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the DCE for Sagnarigu Hon Iddrisu Mariam advised the beneficiary women not to sell the ruminants immediately but allow them to multiply after two years.

 

Hon Mariam advised the women to take good care of the ruminants to enable them get the full benefit of the project.

 

She again cautions the beneficiary women not to disrespect their spouses just because they have been empowered but rather seek their support in rearing of the ruminants.

 

The DCE assured the beneficiary communities and households that selected Community Livestock Workers have been sensitized and trained on disease recognition, medication and vaccines administration to provide support to them.

 

She therefore called on them not to hesitate to report any incidence of disease outbreak or animal ill-health to them for the needed attention.
