The District Chief Executive, Douglas Osei Nti who made the call said being closer to the grassroot, the Assembly members are in a better position to champion the course of collecting their rates, taxes to help assembly rake in more internally generated fund.
"The IGF performance in the district is not on good shape, as the Assembly is straggly to meeting its revenue targets". And added that as at July only GH¢82,028.00 was realized representing 22.88% from the projected budget of GH¢358,460.60 for the year.
He however identified the following as the reasons for the Assembly's poor performance in IGF and called for strict and innovative measures to help address the situation.
Some of the reasons which accounted for the low performance according to the DCE are;
1. Inadequate revenue collectors
2. Lack of motivation for collectors
3. Lack of logistics for revenue mobilization.
4. Absence of comprehensive revenue data base.
"The Assembly currently is collecting unassessed property rate. The Assembly in the last quarter this year will contract lands valuation Board to access the properties in the district. So coming January, 2018, the Assembly will implement the property rate to the fullest".
He said the total debt the Assembly inherited is quoted as GHc1,620,379.00 for which they have to improve their revenue to deal with the debts.
