He noted that the online transactions scams could create problem for the people of Techiman and Ghana as a whole. The MCE made this known in a press briefing at the Techiman Municipal Assembly where he reminded residents that many people in the Brong Ahafo Region were duped last year as a result of some Micro Finance scams such as DKM, JESTAR, GOD IS LOVE and Little Drop, among others of which many people lost their properties.

He said there was a group of persons within the Techiman town collecting various sums of monies from unsuspecting clients of whom their Modus Operandi was almost the same as that of DKM and the rest.

He stated that the only difference was that they collect deposits from their clients through Mobile Money and promise them to double the amount in two (2) weeks’ time through their mobile money accounts.

He said another scam which was on-going in Techiman was at the taxi ranks in the Municipality of which the group collect GHs5.00 from taxi drivers on daily basis with the promise to give them brand new cars to use as taxis on work and pay basis which is very dangerous.

The MCE noted that he counts on the media partners to carry out the information as warning to the general public so that if anything happens, people should not blame the Assembly for not taking action since they were not registered with the Assembly neither do they pay any tax to the Assembly.

He used the opportunity to appeal to the general public about the activities of the two (2) groups and also announced to the public that if they invest in any of the group it would be at their own risks.
