ENCHICO holds 8TH graduation ceremony

The 2015/2016 graduation is the 8th since the start of the Diploma in Basic Education in the school.
Delivering her welcome address, the principal of the college Madam Victoria Aidoo said there has been remarkable improvements in performances with respect to teaching and learning, outreach for teacher development, projects and programs as well as admissions.
She said academic work on campus has improved tremendously as tutors now adopt modern approaches to teaching and learning with flavour of information communication technology integer; the T-Tel teaching model has brought to the fore new pedagogical approaches to teaching and learning which have been adapted by both tutors and students teachers.
Madam Aidoo was grateful to the government for the payment of outstanding feeding fees to students at various levels. She said the payment of the arrears was timely since it bailed the students out of their high levels of indebtedness to the college and appealed to the government to clear the outstanding feeding fees of the second semester of the 2016/17 academic year as well as restore the students allowances as promised by the government which is to start next academic year.
Madam Aidoo also used the opportunity to appeal for support from the government, agencies, institutions and individuals in dealing with some challenges facing the college including huge outstanding electricity bills, deplorable roads and pavements.
In a speech read on his behalf, the Western Regional Minister, Dr Owusu Afriyie said education is the backbone of development; as such government is committed to ensuring that the learning needs of all young people and adults are met through access to appropriate learning and life skills program. She said government educational strategy among other things include; quality of teaching and learning, periodic review of education grants and allowances, extend and strengthen all forms of tertiary education and develop an effective, efficient and properly rewarded teaching service.
The Minister said government acknowledges the importance role our colleges of education play within our education system.The transformation process which led to the creation of colleges of education, the community in which one lives and the country as a whole. This calls for total commitment by all stakeholders as well as the management of educational enterprise for quality education delivery especially at the basic education level.
Professor Evans Kofi Davis, Dean, School of Educational Development and outreach, University of Cape Coat said the theme of the graduation: “Delivery of quality education in Ghana; the role of the trained teacher” was most appropriate adding that quality education is important for the socio economic development of the country because the quality of human resource of a country depends on the quality of education they received. “The provision of quality education requires adequate teaching and learning efficient school administration and management, quality teachers and parental supports just to mention a few”.
Professor Davis advised the graduating students to be interested in the progress of all learners in their class, “helping your students to be independent and creative thinkers, have positive attitudes students, the subject you teach and the teaching profession, and must goods understanding of the social and cultural context of your students and take into consideration during lesson delivery to make learning relevant to students.
Mater Mathew Yarrow swept most of the awards and emerged the overall best graduating student said the ceremony served as an end of one chapter and beginning to another chapter. He advised his colleagues graduating students to fight to jump over the hurdles and obstacles that may come their way. He appealed to individuals to assist the college with WiFi to help students in thire research work.
The colourful graduation attracted sponsorship from a number of institutions including banks, Aowin District Assembly, MP of Aowin, MP of Suaman, churches and individuals. Students who excelled in various fields like sports, teaching practice, grounds work, academics and amongst others were presented with awards.
The over 17 category of awards saw the overall best graduating student who had first class out of 352 graduating students sweep 3 of the awards.
